When the tears roll down your cheek, and we're alone in the backseat, my mind starts to cloud, and your voice is all around This is a song for the backseat, I am here when you weep, I will still here in the clouds, where the fog is all around. This is a song for the backseat. This is a song for the backseat.

Fog rolls down the canyon, water falls down the stream. Love flows through the heartstrings, it's an everlasting thing. Sun comes over the mountains, moon falls from the sky. I know yer miles away now, but I'll not to cry. The distance may keep us apart, but you'll always be in my heart. The distance may keep us apart, but you'll always be in my heart. Orange trees remind me, of the things I left behind. But when I bite to the apple's core, all that's left is the rind. The distance may keep us apart, but you'll always be in my heart. The distance may keep us apart, but you'll always be in my heart. Fog rolls down the canyon, water falls down the stream. Love flows through the heartstrings, it's an everlasting thing.

It's 2 am (friday night), haven't slept for three days. I'll call you up (on the telephone), cause I know you're still awake. Come over here (I'll ride my bike), Knock on my front door (seven times), Bring me daisies please, I'll kiss you on the porch. Let's watch Casablanca while we eat some mac and cheese, drive down to the seashore take off our clothes and take a dip in the sea. Let's take a balloon ride and get lost in outer space. I'd do all these things with you with a sleepy smile upon my face. Infomercials on the TV advertise those fancy machines. Let's go to sleep. Let's go to sleep. It's 4am, you can crash on my couch until it's breakfast time. We'll make some toast (by the fireside). Let's go to sleep. Let's go to sleep Let's go to sleep. Let's go to sleep

Till There Was You (free) 02:25
There were bells on a hill, but I never hear them ringing. No, I never heard them at all, till there was you. There were birds in the sky, but I never saw them winging. No, I never saw them at all, till there was you. And there was music, and wonderful roses, they tell me, in sweet fragrant meadows of dawn- and you There was love all around, but I never hear it singing. No I never heard it at all, till there was you. (ukulele solo) And there was music, and wonderful roses, they tell me, in sweet fragrant meadows of dawn- and you. There was love all around, but I never heard it singing. No, I never heard it at all, till there was you.

Let's Go! 01:48
Let's go sailing, on the starry sea. Let's go sailing, just you and me. And we'll stay up all nightand sleep all day and the wind will whisk all our cares away cause we're sailing on the sea. Let's go for a walk dear, leave our fears behind. Let's go for a walk dear, our feet will be our guide. And when the trails runs out, we'll go left, we'll go right, we'll go straight, we'll go back, we'll go anywhere in sight, cause we're walking wherever we please.

Crazy 02:19
I don't wanna let you go, tie a string around yer toe. Come find me when the sun comes up, we'll hug until we've had enough. But we love hugs so we'll never stop, hug until we reach the top, of the never ending staircase- don't forget yer briefcase. Cause you'll need all yer paperwork, to understand my pencil skirt, there's no lead in there you know, that would hurt and stain the snow. But who will come and save me, when I get all crazy? Who will come and save me, when I get all crazy? I open my eyes and see you there, you kept the string on cause you care, the sun is setting behind those trees, hold me tighter and I won't sneeze- into the sleeve that's you warm, it looks to be a little torn, just like my heart when we let go, I miss you and I want to know: if you'll miss me into the night, and wish that you could hold me tight. Come inside, turn off the light and everything will be alright.

Oh there is not much to say about major chords today. They're used in lots of songs you hear on the radio. I use them in lots of my songs, they're easy to strum along- but my friend Josh Chang doesn't like them, oh no! Oh, oh major chords, major chords. Oh, oh major chords, major chords. Oh, oh major chords, major chords. Oh, oh major chords, major chords. My friend Stephen plays the blue, he riffs in all of his tunes. I love him to death because he comes to all my shows. He cant play barchords, but he still uses major chords. He uses them and he solos lots of notes. Oh, oh major chords, major chords. Oh, oh major chords, major chords. Oh, oh major chords, major chords. Oh, oh major chords, major chords. You can use major chords in your songs, and I'll even strum along, but don't forget there are lots of other chords too! Oh, oh major chords, major chords. Oh, oh major chords, major chords. Oh, oh major chords, major chords. Oh, oh major chords, major chords. ---- I want to go, go, go where the cacti grow and the rocketships fly into the sky. There are hula hoops and chocolate candies to help me remain happy-e-e-o. Oh, oh I'm so happy. Oh, oh I'm so happy. I want to see, see corporate media because it's cute and fuzzy. I want to paint, paint the pictures in my head, and make sure I have numerous colors oh! Oh, oh I'm so happy. Oh, oh I'm so happy. There are so many things, that I want to do. It's too bad I don't have any time or money. I guess I'll be ok, as long as I stay sane and continue laughing at things when they're funny oh! Oh, oh I'm so happy. Oh, oh I'm so happy. Oh, oh I'm so happy. Oh, oh I'm so happy. Well the CIA has priorities, beyond lunch dates and high fives. I'm sure they have fun too, but maybe its too hard and they lead terribly uneventful lives. Oh no, it's not happy. Oh no, it's not happy.

Winter 01:42
Love in the springtime is happy and gay, and I like the coziness of a cold winters day. Holding my baby so close to me, ain't nobody nowhere, as happy as we. Love in the summer can get mighty steamy, and winter is made for lazy kisses and dreaming. Wrapped in a blanket, hot chocolate for two, we don't have a single thing that we gotta do! Just laying around while the world spins 'round us. Autumn arrives, the world changes colors. We don't worry, no cause we got each other. Look outside at the pouring rain, watching it trail down the window pane. Love in the winter can seem cold and gray, but lone by this fire we feel warm and ok. We never worry if we get snowed in, we stay together till spring comes again. I said, "love in the winter is jealous and warm- you know I could stay here all day in yer arms." You know that it's true, I love you.

When I'm driving home, I'm listening to your song. Gosh I'm so glad I have a tape deck. When I'm on the computer, I listen to our shows. I wish that you would sing louder. Cause I wanna hear you when we practice our songs out in the park, I love it when you sing like a diva. and you have a voice that's like an angels, and sometimes it reminds me of Feist, but I like yours better. I wrote you a song, cause you wrote me one, and it made me cry the night that I listened. It was such a good song it made me wanna stop writing all my crappy little songs. But I know that you like them, so I'll keep on writing them all day long. I'm so glad that you help me, I'm so happy you help me sing my songs Sing: la la la, la la la, la la la This is your song!

Baby you'll find me on the mountaintops, Out with the daisies and the long walks. Watching the sunset over suburbia in the west, There with my baby, yeah you know, she's the best. Baby you'll find me in the foothills, Out on the ranch with all the daffodils. Holding my lover so close to my chest, Watching the sun as it rolls on west. And then on day we'll sing so loudly, Everyone will hear us in the valley. Everyone will hear us in the valley. Everyone will hear us in the valley. Yeah, everyone will hear us in the valley. Everyone will hear us in the valley. Singing over a sunset to the valley. (pt. 2) And then one day we'll float above the clouds, and I never, no I never, I wanna come down. And then one day we'll sing above the clouds, and everyone will hear us down on earth. The flower's will grow, the trees will unfold. And we'll keep secrets untold. No one will ever know what we did up here, and all of our barriers will disappear. The flower's will grow, the trees will unfold. And we'll keep secrets untold. Between me and yer skin, and our bones.

I know you've had it hard, while I just sit here with my guitar. The week's taken it's toll on you. But you know I'm around, to help you when you're down. So here's what you should do: Save your sunday for me. Save your sunday for me. Save your sunday for me. Monday, tuesday- kinda mad. Wednesday, thursday- what a drag. Friday, saturday- take you back. As long as you will: Save your sunday for me. Fountains and fireworks in the park. Long talks and walks, in the dark. I hope you mind if I sleep in your car. Take me anywhere far away. Save your sunday for me. Save your sunday for me. Monday, Tuesday- kinda mad. Wednesday, Thursday- what a drag. Friday, Saturday- take you back. As long as you will: Save your sunday for me. Save your sunday for me.

Oh pretty butterfly, you took your head too high, you stuck around and would fly by but it's not what you think. Oh busy bumblebee, don't pollinate the head you see, turns into a building, about to fall down. The world's not what you think, people fall into the drink. A potion's potent painted pink, about to fall down. The world's not what you think, people fall into the drink. A potion's potent painted pink, about to fall down. About to fall down. Spiraling up and down- left, right, all around. Spiraling up and down- left, right, all around. Spiraling up and down- left, right, all around. Don't go that way. Don't go that way. Don't go that way.

about

Around the Winter 2007, Alex Poska began accumulating solo material, outside of The Paper Orchestra, which eventually came to fruition with Carrie Muller in the form of Your Yellow Dress. After a short tour through California the duo expanded to a trio with the horns of Tim Rottenberg until Carrie moved to Ohio. Before she moved, Your Yellow Dress recruited a number of helpers to lay tracks down for their debut album Songs for the Backseat.

The album was recorded in a hurry as spring became summer and the duo graduated from Mission Viejo High School. In late June 2008 Carried packed up and moved with her family to Ohio. Alex finished what was left of the 13 tracks subtly orchestrating the folksy twee pop with violins, ukuleles, didjeridoos, horns and cellos played by various friends and family. The album is more or less a compilation of various songs written from 2007 to 2008 by Alex and Carrie, separately and collaboratively. The album does hold a special place in their relationship, showcasing some of the most heartmelting and sunshining DIY music you ever heard.

Opening with a loop on a harp-mandolin, the album plinks and plunks its way through mediations on baritone ukulele, drones on didjeridoos, boy-girl harmonies and gleeful glissandos. A couple of covers made their way onto the album including the classic "Till There Was You" from The Music Man, as well as "Happyships" by friends Watercolor Paintings. There is a veritable variety of ukuleles, banjos, banjoleles, mandolins, banjolins, slide guitars, hollow body guitars, glockenspiels, violins, cellos, trumpets, baritones, mellophones and an army of percussion instruments that gives the albums its glorious folksy twee pop sound, sure to charm any soul.

The album was finished in July of 2008, packaged in slipcases featuring a sleeve with the photo above. Collaborating with cellist and photographer Josh Chang, a late-night photo shoot of Alex’s car was arranged. After painting the back window of the soon-to-be-sold Jeep Grand Cherokee, a long exposure photo was set up. Editing late into the night, they erased the license plate, replacing the numbers and letters with “by:” as well as the registration month/year to the albums release month, and gave the car a good washing. A few handmade copies were sold at the some local shows played by Alex and Tim in Southern California as well as Alex and Carrie in Ohio during the summer of 2008.
